More hydrogen news: new Hyundai Nexo seen for the first time

Could it be that the love for cars with a charging cable seems to have cooled down a bit worldwide, or is it the fuss about available power? In any case: hydrogen cars seem to be making a comeback. BMW and Toyota previously announced a major collaboration in this area and Hyundai will probably share its hydrogen knowledge with the Czechs. The Korean brand previously stated that it still fully believes in hydrogen for passenger cars. The current Hyundai Nexo hydrogen car will therefore get a successor, which is due to appear next year. We have now caught that successor for the first time. The car has simply been spotted in Europe, gives away its identity by standing on the wheels of the current Nexo and will apparently get a sturdy body. With its straight roofline and upright nose, the new hydrogen SUV even looks a bit like the new Santa Fe, although it will be smaller and less pompous. The current Hyundai Nexo was presented in 2018. It is a fairly large SUV that is only available with a fuel cell and therefore converts hydrogen into electricity. In that sense, it is the successor to the Hyundai ix35 FCEV from 2013, although that was ‘just’ an ix35 with a different drivetrain. In the field of hydrogen, the Hyundai Nexo currently has only one competitor, although that Toyota Mirai has a completely different shape. Both cars cost at least around 70,000 euros, although the Mirai became considerably cheaper in one fell swoop with its last generation change and it cannot be ruled out that Hyundai will achieve something similar. If that trailer in the photos says anything about the towing capabilities of the new Nexo, it is in any case an improvement for this model. The current Nexo has a towing capacity of exactly 0 kg. The new Hyundai Nexo – we assume that it will be called that again – will be released in 2025 and will also be sold in Europe again.
