At the conference “Immunization of infants and children – Prevention, myths, national vaccine schedule”, organized by Social Moms, parents concerned about protecting the health of their little ones, learned essential information about immunization and prevention of contagious diseases. The event, held on November 7, 2024, at the Marshal Garden Hotel in Bucharest, addressed topical issues and brought together doctors recognized in the field, who provided clear explanations and detailed answers to parents’ questions.
In the context of the increase in the number of illnesses and the return of children to communities, parents need reliable sources of information and correct medical guidance more than ever. Immunization through vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious diseases, and the Social Moms conference aimed to inform parents and clarify the most common myths related to vaccination.
Speakers invited to the conference were:
- Dr. Irina Costacheprimary care pediatrician, known for her empathetic approach and extensive experience working with children. Dr. Irina Costache discussed the need for vaccination at an early age, the main entry points for viruses in the body and methods of protection against the spread of diseases in the community.
- Dr. Sandra Alexiua primary care family medicine physician and member of the National Society of Family Medicine’s Vaccinology Group, addressed essential topics such as the role of the family physician in parent education, the benefits of immunization, and major vaccine myths. Dr. Alexiu also emphasized the importance of correct information to help parents make responsible decisions for their children’s health.
Topics of discussion included:

- Myths and truths about vaccination – from the safety of vaccines to the risks of not being immunized.
- National vaccination schedule and serious preventable diseases.
- The difference between flu and coldplus recommendations about the flu vaccine.

The conference ended with a question-and-answer session from the participants, where parents had the opportunity to get answers directly from the experts and dispel some of the most common vaccination myths.
