More than 2,800 households in Serbia are prosumers

In Serbia, the concept of buyer-producer, where households become active participants in the energy system, is gaining more and more importance. According to the data of Elektrodistribucija Serbia, there are currently 2,811 households functioning as prosumers in the Register of Buyer-Producers. These households not only consume electricity, but also generate it, usually through solar panels.

The installed power of consumer-producer households is currently 22,841.36 kW.

There are differences in the statistical regions of the Republic of Serbia in the number of buyer-producers. As of October 31, 1,006 households were registered in Vojvodina, while there were 465 in the Belgrade region. Šumadija and Western Serbia recorded 583 households, while in the Southern and Eastern Serbia region there were 757 prosumers. There are currently no data for the region of Kosovo and Metohija.

Municipalities without prosumers

The district with the fewest prosumers is Toplički, with only 18 prosumers, while the most prosumers, besides the capital, are located in the South Bačka district (291) and Novi Sad (160).

Also, there are municipalities that still do not have any prosumers, such as Preševo, Trgovište, Crna Trava and Bela Palanka, which are located in the very south of Serbia.

Differences also exist in Belgrade municipalities, where GO Zemun has the most prosumer households (71), while the most populated municipalities have the fewest prosumers – GO Novi Beograd has three, while GO Stari grad and GO Vračar each have one prosumer.

From residential buildings to kindergartens

In addition to households, the Registry also includes three residential communities with an installed power of 69.50 kW and Other customers-producers with an installed power of 52,095.74 kW. In the Other category, there are industrial facilities, telecommunications facilities, churches, schools, kindergartens, state institutions, natural persons, etc.

Prosumers contribute to the local economy and the development of sustainable communities. Investments in solar systems represent long-term profitability, while at the same time encouraging environmental awareness and responsible use of resources. Through this practice, citizens are actively involved in the energy transition, which can lead to significant changes in the way energy is produced and consumed.

In the future, prosumers could significantly contribute to the energy stability and sustainability of Serbia, thus becoming an important part of the strategy for the development of renewable energy sources and reducing the negative impact on the environment.
