(Health Korea News / Lee Chang-yong) It was revealed that more than half of all target institutions received a grade 1 in the ‘3rd Anesthesia Adequacy Evaluation.’
On the 26th, the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service released the results of the ‘2023 (3rd) Anesthesia Appropriateness Evaluation’ containing these contents. The evaluation targets are the treatments conducted from January to March of last year at 303 institutions including general hospitals, general hospitals, and hospitals that claimed anesthesia fees more than 30 times. As a result of the evaluation, the overall score increased by 2.3 points from the previous time to an average of 89.7 points, with general hospitals improving by 3.0 points and specialized hospitals (hospital level) improving by 2.5 points.
The second anesthesia adequacy assessment published by the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service in 2022 targeted general hospitals, general hospitals, and specialized hospitals (hospital level). In this third assessment, the assessment target was expanded to all hospitals (general hospitals, general hospitals, hospitals). This is because the need to manage anesthesia safety in small and medium-sized hospitals was raised.
The overall score of the hospital level was 48.5 points on average, which was relatively low compared to other types. Considering that this was the first evaluation target, only the national results were released this time.
The evaluation grades were divided into 1 to 5 grades based on the overall score. The percentage of 1st grade institutions among all target institutions in this 3rd evaluation was 54.9%, which is a 3.7%p increase from the previous evaluation, and the number of 5th grade institutions decreased by 2.7%p. A total of 219 hospitals received a 1st grade, and when these 1st grade hospitals are divided by region, there are 62 in the Gyeongsang area, 56 in the Gyeongin area, and 46 in the Seoul area.
The average monthly anesthesia time per person for anesthesia pain medicine specialists increased by 3.6 hours from the second period (149.8 hours) to an average of 153.4 hours. The lower the number for the average monthly anesthesia time per person, the better the indicator. Regarding the strengthened indicator criteria of ‘operation of recovery rooms,’ 282 institutions (67.6%) met the criteria.
The ‘pre-anesthesia patient evaluation implementation rate’ remained high at an average of 96.6%. The ‘recovery room nausea and vomiting and pain score measurement rate’ increased by 1.2%p compared to the second time (95.2%) to an average of 96.4%.
The ‘proportion of patients maintaining normal body temperature (35.5℃ or higher) during and after anesthesia’ improved in all categories, including general hospitals, general hospitals, and specialized hospitals (hospital level), compared to the secondary level. In particular, specialized hospitals (hospital level) showed the largest increase of 22.7%p (secondary, 65.2 → tertiary, 87.9%).
