In 2024, 381,227 new cars will be registered in the Netherlands. Of these, 132,166 were fully electric. This means that 34.7 percent of all new cars registered in the Netherlands in 2024 were fully electric. So more than one in three. In 2023, EVs still accounted for 30.8 percent of the registration pie. The market share of electric cars has therefore grown relatively strongly. The market share of cars with a hybrid drivetrain has grown even more strongly. Last year, almost 160,000 new cars with a mild-hybrid, hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain were registered. Hybrid cars therefore have a market share of just under 42 percent. In 2023, the market share of hybrid cars was still 37.1 percent. Interestingly, mild hybrid, full hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars each accounted for a third of total hybrid car sales. Of all cars driving around in the Netherlands, 498,901 are fully electric (5.4 percent). Yet that share is growing steadily. In 2023, only 3.69 percent of the Dutch vehicle fleet consisted of EVs. Gasoline cars (6,975,013 units) account for no less than 75.1 percent of the Dutch vehicle fleet. With 1,021,626 units, hybrids account for an 11 percent share of the Dutch vehicle fleet. 7.4 percent of the fleet consists of cars with a diesel engine (691,208 units).
