“Four years before this, we updated records for trading volume on an annual basis. Now we are moving at a good pace, there is every chance of updating the record for the fifth year,” quotes Terentyev “Interfax”.

The exchange representative emphasized that the high key rate of the Central Bank affects the commission business “not in the best way, but not dramatically.”

On Friday, the Board of Directors of the Central Bank decided to increase the key rate to 21% per annum. Against the backdrop of the news, the Moscow Exchange index fell by 0.7%, below 2,700 points.

At the close of the exchange, the index fell even more – to 2,660 points, which is 2.3% lower than when the exchange opened on Friday.

At the end of 2021, the total trading volume on the Moscow Exchange for the first time in history exceeded the mark of 1 quadrillion rubles, amounting to 1.01 quadrillion. In 2023, trading volume increased to 1.3 quadrillion, which is 24% more than the previous year.
