Lääne Elu will publish the most read stories again in 2024. One of them is the story “Recognized coach was forced to resign” published on September 3.

Jaanus Getreu, the long-time football and athletics coach of the Lääneranta sports school, wrote a letter of resignation on Friday, in a situation where he had to choose between his own resignation and an emergency termination of employment.

Getreu’s work at the sports school became fatal after an incident that took place at the Propeller concert in Lihula on August 17, after a football match between sports veterans and the municipality. The situation is all the weirder because Getreu had no idea about the performance criticizing the municipal government and council.

When organizing the fifth veteran football competition dedicated to the 30th birthday of Lääneranta Sports School, Getreu tried to make it excellent and memorable in every way. “I invited the municipal employees’ team to play against the veterans. The mayor Ingvar Saare took it very seriously. I was very happy that I got the people of the municipal government out from behind the table and onto the sports field,” said Getreu. “In order to make it a real event, I invited Aivar Pohlaku to whistle and Propeller to perform,” he added.
