Motorola and Corning tested the limits of Gorilla Glass technology at the North Pole

Motorola, part of the Lenovo group, and Corning Incorporated, the company responsible for the Gorilla Glass material (used by most smartphone manufacturers to protect the screens of these devices), started an unprecedented expedition to the North Pole to test its durability and performance the new Motorola Razr 50 Ultra and Edge 50 Ultra smartphones. In the extreme conditions of the Arctic Ocean, devices with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, have been subjected to the challenges of climate and terrain to prove their strength and quality.

The protagonist of the expedition is Po Ki Yuen, a former Corning engineer with a passion for photography, who captured the unique landscapes and wildlife using Motorola terminal cameras, equipped with the “Photo Enhancement Engine”. The technology uses artificial intelligence to optimize image quality, delivering sharp, detailed photos. From spectacular high-resolution landscapes to close-ups of polar bears, Po Ki was able to fine-tune each image to capture perfect detail, sharpness, color and bokeh.

Beauty can be found in every corner of the planet, even in the harshest conditions. I want to capture all these moments. The North Pole is not only a challenging physical environment, but also a place that challenged me mentally. I was extremely excited to test these devices and Gorilla Glass in such an environment.

The compact and foldable design of the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra made it the ideal device for traveling in such an environment, being easy to carry on long hikes. Whether folded into a pocket or used to capture wide arctic landscapes, the devices proved extremely useful. Both the Razr 50 Ultra and the Edge 50 Ultra have been protected from scratches and drops thanks to the latest Corning Gorilla Glass protection glass, which has increased the resistance of both models in the most adverse climatic conditions. Thus, Po Ki ensured that he would not miss a single moment, regardless of extremely low temperatures, heavy snow or other external factors, which could have jeopardized his expedition to the North Pole.

Corning’s advanced materials have been instrumental in helping Motorola create smartphones that combine durability with attractive design. This expedition is a test of the endurance of these devices and our collaboration with Corning to achieve outstanding performance in all conditions.
