Motorola smartphones and Android 15 release (Android news #35 2024)

Motorola comes with the striking Edge 50 Neo and Android 15 is not coming until October. This is the most important Android news of the week.

Motorola unveils Edge 50 Neo: compact and five years of Android updates

Motorola is going all out with the announcement of four new smartphones. The most important (and most interesting) is the Edge 50 Neo, the successor to last year’s Edge 40 Neo. The smartphone is available from today for 499 euro and stands out for a number of things.

For example, the Edge 50 Neo has a relatively compact 6.36-inch screen. This makes it easier to operate the phone with one hand. It is an OLED display that reaches a maximum brightness of 2800 nits. That is more than enough to always read the screen.

This is when Android 15 will (finally) be released

Android 15 officially shown

As an Android enthusiast, you’re probably eagerly awaiting the release of Android 15, the latest version. The update, like Android 14, is coming relatively late this year, according to website Android Authority. The Android upgrade will not be released by Google in September, but only in October.

When users currently running the test version of Android 15 opt out of the beta program, they will see the message shown above. It clearly states that the stable (and final) version of Android 15 will be rolled out in October. Until then, Google will continue testing the update.

‘First photos leaked: camera bar missing from Google Pixel 9a’

We still have to wait months for the smartphone, but photos of the Google Pixel 9a have already leaked. The images were shared in a closed Facebook group and according to the source by a Google employee. However, we take the news with a grain of salt for now.

The two photos show, among other things, the bottom of the device, where the metal edge immediately stands out. We also find this on the recently unveiled Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. The USB-C connection, speaker and location of the SIM card slot are also identical to those of the Pixel 9 devices.

Amazon Alexa now also speaks Dutch (finally)

Amazon Echo Dot

We’ve had to wait a long time, but Amazon has finally added Dutch support to Alexa. Just like with the Google Assistant, it is now possible to give voice commands in Dutch.

This way you can ask about the weather, make shopping lists or receive news updates. You can also search for music and turn on a Dutch radio station using your voice. Thanks to Alexa it is also possible to control smart devices, set timers or use alarms and reminders.

Google Play Store now updates multiple apps at once

Anyone who has used an Android phone for a long time knows that the Play Store previously did not allow multiple apps to be downloaded at the same time. This meant that one app would only be downloaded once the app before it had been fully downloaded and installed. Earlier this year, Google released an update to the Play Store, which allowed multiple applications to be downloaded at the same time.

While that update also applied to getting app updates at the time, that was no longer the case pretty quickly. Google is now rolling out an ‘update update’ for the Play Store that will put an end to the update queues.
