Crvena zvezda will play a return match on Wednesday at 21:00 as part of the qualification for the group stage of the Champions League, and the rival of the Serbian champions is Bodo/Glimt.
Sports director of the “red and whites”, Mitar Mrkela, believes that Zvezda can and must turn things around in this double match:
– One game is behind us, another is ahead. We lost 2:1 in Norway, we have an active result before the second leg in Belgrade. We want to take advantage of “Maracana”, because much bigger teams than Bodo Glimt have fallen there. Honestly, everyone at the club believes in this team, coaching staff and our fans. With a nice atmosphere, we can reach the fourth Champions League. The support of the fans means a lot, especially when the stadium is really full at such important games. A full Marakana means a lot, rarely does any club have such energy as Crvena zvezda has in its fans – said Mrkela for Blic, and then added:
– I have been in football for many years, and Crvena Zvezda has been playing European qualifiers for many years, which we successfully passed. Last year we were direct participants in the group stage of the Champions League, this year we are in the playoffs, and for us every rival is worthy of respect. Whoever we won in the draw deserves respect, including Bodo Glimt who confirmed that he is not where he is by chance. It is no longer a phrase that everyone plays football today, so Bodo is still the champion of his country. But we are taught to think about ourselves, to believe in ourselves, and to be less concerned with others. It’s good that Crvena Zvezda depends on itself, so if we win, the goal has been achieved. And I remind you again, many big clubs played at our Maracana. We know the history of Red Star, the strength of our fans – he concluded.
