MSI Afterburner will offer independent fan control for new graphics

The new version of MSI Afterburner will bring support for asynchronous fan speed control. This was confirmed by the author of the software for the RTX 5080 model with three fans from MSI.

The author of the popular software MSI Afterburner, Alexey Nicolaychuk known by the nickname “Unwinder”, confirmed the interesting news. Newly, the Nvidia RTX 5080 graphics with three fans can control each fan separately. This is due to changes in the PCB that now allow each fan to have its own controller.

The new Nvidia RTX 5080 graphics will appear in stores from January 21. According to a reliable Hong Kong source. We will learn more soon…

With current graphics, fans are often connected to one or two connectors, which makes their individual control impossible. For the RTX 5080, which is probably the model from MSI, all three fans will have their own controllers. Users, or in other words the software, will be able to regulate the individual speeds of each of the fans separately.

Alexey also revealed that MSI Afterburner will get a new button for asynchronous speed control of the third fan. The update will be compatible not only with the RTX 5080, but also with other GPUs from other manufacturers if they support independent fan control. So far, however, no one else has mentioned such a feature in the leaks. But that doesn’t mean he won’t have it. We have to wait a few more hours for that before the new cards are officially presented at CES 2025.
