MSI celebrates 20 years in the notebook segment, looks back at key models

MSI has been on the laptop market for 20 years and is celebrating the anniversary with a video and a look back. From a late start to a large market share.

MSI started the journey in the notebook field relatively late. The company came up with the first model in 2004. For comparison, Asus showed the first laptop in 1997 and HP even in 1984. MSI’s start was delayed, but the company quickly caught up.

The company’s first notebook was the M510C model with an Intel Centrino processor and Radeon 9600/9700 graphics. This 15-inch model offered up to 2GB of DDR-3000 RAM, an optical drive, and WiFi-G support. At the same time, it weighed 2.9 kilograms.

The key for the company was the GX600 model, the first laptop with the possibility of overclocking. It was aimed at gamers and offered GeForce 8600M GT graphics. In 2015, MSI achieved a 19% share of the gaming laptop market.

Current models they still offer chips from Intel, AMD and Nvidia. While the company has not yet jumped on the bandwagon of devices with Snapdragon chips and is also avoiding chrome OS and the basic line of devices in general. Currently, the company is targeting demanding gamers, users who desire luxury and modern technology-equipped laptops.
