On Tuesday, July 16, the help of Daugavpils City Municipality police rescuers was needed by a child born in 2012, who, while jumping from a diving board on the Central Beach of Lake Lieli Stropi, swallowed water and began to drown. This was reported by the Municipal Police.
A municipal police officer-rescuer responded promptly to the incident and immediately rushed to help – he took special equipment, dove into the water and helped the drowning man. The necessary assistance was provided on the spot – the child is fine. The Daugavpils City Municipality Police asks parents to discuss with their children the issues of safe recreation near water again.
Children should know that they cannot go to the beach without adults, it can be dangerous. Parents should make sure that their child can swim, discuss water safety measures.
It is important to understand that being with a child near water is not a rest, but double work, since children need to be constantly monitored – being distracted even for a minute can cause a big disaster.
This is not the first time that Daugavpils Municipal Police officers have rescued drowning children – last year assistance was provided child born in 2014.
