Seven councilors in the small town in the province of Parma resign after controversies linked to a hardcore party. Mayor Giuseppe Restiani: “An excuse to get rid of me.”

Seven out of ten city councilors Varano de’ Melegari they resigned, leading to the mayor’s decline Giuseppe Restiani and to the commissionership of the municipality in the province of Parma. The decision was communicated yesterday, 25 October, by the prefect Antonio Lucio Garufi, who “considering the existence of reasons of serious and urgent need”, appointed the deputy vice-prefect Adriano Eustachio Coretti as commissioner until the administrative elections.
To distrust the mayor, elected with the centre-right civic list ‘Looking to the future’, it would have been, according to what was reported by the local press, one BDSM themed party (bondage, domination, sadomasochism) which should have been held last summer in Pallavicino Castlesymbol of the city. Already in the past the Parma municipality had been at the center of a political debate for completely similar reasons. A series of communications published on social media by the association that was supposed to organize the party, regarding the mayor and one of his councillors, fueled the controversy.
For his part, Restiani defended himself as follows: “By feigning disdain for the re-edition of an event already held in the town without any consequences, a political part of my majority only sought a way to end the legislature”said the mayor.
