Musk wants to send five unmanned spacecraft to Mars

The wealthy Elon Musk’s space company, SpaceX, will send five unmanned Starship spacecraft to Mars in two years.

Musk writes this in a post on his social media, X, on Sunday.

“If they all land safely, then manned missions are possible in four years. If we encounter challenges, manned missions will be postponed for another two years,” he writes.

Musk is known for ambitious announcements on behalf of his company. SpaceX has a strategy that it’s ok to fail if it leads to progress.

Over time, Musk has a goal of enabling “anyone who wants to be a space traveler to go to Mars.”

“At some point there will be thousands of Starships going to Mars, and it will be a magnificent sight,” writes Musk.

Already earlier this month, Musk mentioned in a post the plans to send unmanned missions to Mars in two years.

The Earth and Mars are at fixed intervals in positions which make the conditions for carrying out journeys to the planet more favorable than otherwise.

This is exactly what Musk was referring to when he wrote that the “first Starships to Mars will be launched in two years when the next transfer window from Earth to Mars opens”.

The entire Starship rocket system consists of two parts – a spaceship at the top, which, like the entire system, is called Starship, and the launch vehicle Super Heavy.

However, Starship is not yet fully up and running, writes the medium Space.com.

But it has gone better and better with each test that has been carried out, and in June they did the fourth test. Here, Starship achieved all major goals of the mission. A fifth test is expected to take place soon.
