Astronauts on the International Space Station can see the Earth from a perspective we don’t have the opportunity to admire on the surface. They often manage to see mysterious phenomena in the sky. Some of them even resemble UFOs. Matthew Dominick was quite lucky, in early July he did photo of “glowing balls”.
Matthew Dominick, who is the commander of the Crew-8 manned mission, arrived at the International Space Station in early March 2024. Earlier this month, the astronaut was very lucky and from the ISS managed to see a mysterious phenomenon in the sky, which took the form of glowing balls. Of course, he did not fail to take a photo, which was later shared by NASA.
In the photo taken by Dominick you can see several glowing balls that appeared in South Africa. It must be admitted that the photo is phenomenal and at first glance the elements they look like UFOs — ships that are preparing to invade Earth. These are not actually unidentified flying objects.
Dominick didn’t encounter a UFO, however, but captured something more mundane from space. The aforementioned glowing balls are actually storms that occurred on July 3 over the Republic of South Africa. It looks interesting because the phenomenon took the form of almost one line. In this way, at first glance you can actually have the impression of observing several UFOs flying behind each other.
Red streaks can also be seen in the photo, which was taken by a NASA astronaut. What are they? The agency described them as “less understood phenomena“, but it is known that they are associated with very strong electrical discharges in the Earth’s atmosphere.
Astronauts on the International Space Station have seen similar phenomena before. Some of them were truly spectacular. For example, in 2021, French astronaut Thomas Pesquet caught a blue flashwhich could be associated with a bomb explosion. In reality, it was momentary light phenomenon (TLE) similar to lightning that occurs in the upper atmosphere (stratosphere and mesosphere) of the planet.
Another time the astronauts could admire a blue glow that looked like a brain. The photo of the phenomenon comes from 2022 and was captured from the International Space Station as it flew over the southeastern part of Asia. In this case, we also had a storm and lightning that were in the clouds. Fortunately, the ISS crew takes pictures of such formations and thanks to this, we can later admire them in paintings.
