(Health Korea News / Park Won-jin) It was found that the national vaccination rate for children in our country is maintaining a high rate compared to other major countries.
On the 29th, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced the ‘2023 National Childhood Vaccination Rate Status’ containing these details.
‘National Childhood Immunization Rate Status’ has been collected since 2011 to identify the annual vaccination rates for major age groups (1-3 years old, 6 years old) for national immunization and to use as basic data for establishing national immunization policies.
According to the statistics, the full vaccination rate by age in 2023 was 96.4% for 1-year-olds, 92.9% for 2-year-olds, 89.2% for 3-year-olds, and 89.8% for 6-year-olds.
Compared to 2022, the 1-3 year olds were at a similar level, and the 6 year olds rose by 1.2%p. In particular, the 6 year olds rose for three consecutive years (83.5% in 2020 → 89.8% in 2023, 6.3%p↑), showing the highest figure since 2018 when statistics for that age began to be compiled.
As a result of comparing the domestic vaccination rate with major overseas countries (the US, the UK, and Australia), it was found that Korea showed a higher vaccination rate (1-16%p) than major overseas countries for all six major vaccines.
Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Ji Young-mi said, “Thanks to parents and children who actively participated in the national vaccination program, our country achieved a high vaccination rate in 2023, and children are well-established in immunity against major vaccine-preventable diseases,” and urged, “Please continue to complete vaccinations according to the standard vaccination schedule.”
