The North American professional basketball league (NBA) has signed a long-term agreement with Amazon Prime Video, as well as NBC Universal and Disney to broadcast the games of the sport’s most famous competition, the NBA announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The contract has a duration of 11 years, covering the seasons 2025-26 to 2035-36.
According to the NBA, the choice of Amazon Prime Video over Warner Bros. Discovery was due to the fact that the most recent proposal presented by Warner was inferior to that of Amazon.
The NBA Finals games will continue to be broadcast by Disney and the three companies have also secured the rights to broadcast “an unprecedented number of games from the women’s competition (WNBA),” the NBA said.
Warner Bros., which owns the TNT and TBS networks, has broadcast the NBA for decades but will now lose one of its “crowns.” The deal with Amazon, NBC and Disney is worth $76 billion.
