It is not news that the number of readers from us in the country is constantly decreasing. In an increasingly digitized world, readers are becoming an endangered species.
To sound the alarm about this, the publishing house Nemira and Saatchi Creative Hub, along with The National Museum of Natural History “Grigore Antipa” organized a temporary exhibition on the weekend of July 27-28of living statues, titled “The Reader – A New Endangered Species”.
During the exhibition, visitors could admire various types of readers, including the foreign fiction reader, the SF/Fantasy reader, the Romanian fiction reader or the essay reader. Numerous writers and booktalkers have joined the initiative.
“Although I have been to Antipa many times with my little one, this time I came especially for this exhibition. I liked the idea from the first and I wanted to show my little one how important reading is and what can happen if we stop reading. I think that such initiatives should happen more often”, Olivia Vasilevisitor.
„An original way to shed light on the “endangered” reader. Certainly a manifesto that did not go unnoticed, on the contrary, yesterday at Antipa I heard many exclamations addressed to the exposed readers. I liked it, it amused me, but it also made me aware of the problem”, Irina Mărasoiuvisitor.
Each reader exhibit was accompanied by information about the habits and main characteristics of that species and a QR code leading to the website nemira.ro/speciidecititori.
Those who didn’t make it to the exhibition can still access the site to discover both the species of readers, as well as book recommendations and discounts.
In addition, those who wish to contribute to the protection of species of readers, can explore Map of Reader Reservations and signal the places where readers still find refuge. At the end of the initiative, the most populated places will be marked as nature reserves by readers and permanently benefit from offers on books.
