YouTube engages in media education for adolescents

In an era where disinformation can take a particular place in the media, and particularly among younger audiences, YouTube announces that it wishes to engage in media education for adolescents. To do this, the platform is setting up a new partnership and new resources, the objective of which is to offer a safe and enriching online experience to all its users.

As part of Global Media Literacy Week, which took place from October 24 to 31, YouTube announced a new partnership with Poynter Institute’s MediaWise to launch a media literacy program. media designed to help teens become smarter digital citizens.

In fact, for several days now, teachers around the world have been able to access free educational materials to use in the classroom and in all types of learning environments.

« Learning to understand the context behind posts, images and videos, and sharing them responsibly are essential skills at any age, even more so for young people “, says Alex Mahadevan, Director of Mediawise and professor at the Poytner Institute.

The new educational program includes courses on topics related to evaluating sources, recognizing AI-generated content, and tips for sharing content responsibly.

All of the educational content is made available to everyone in the Hit Pause section on the Poytner website, and will be enriched over the coming months. YouTube also plans to export this content on a larger scale, and adapt it for each market.
