Netflix is a popular streaming platform used by many people around the world. Therefore, it is not surprising that fraudsters have also chosen this platform. They want to lure money from unsuspecting users. Currently, Netflix has become an instrument of massive fraud among our neighbors.
Fraudsters abuse Netflix
The police of the Slovak Republic recently she pointed out to a massive fraud that takes advantage of the good name of the streaming platform Netflix. Scammers use different foreign numbers, which suggests that they are a group of people from multiple foreign countries. It is therefore quite possible that this or a similar fraud will also visit us in the Czech Republic.
As the SR Police pointed out, the fraudster wants you to pay for Netflix. If you fall for this scam, your bank account will lose all the money. The scam targets the psyche of users. Victims try to convince themselves that something is wrong with their Netflix account. If you don’t take the action it asks you to, it will give the impression that you will lose the service.
Do not click on the links
As can be seen from the SMS message that started to go massively to Slovak users, the fraudster states that the last payment for the Netflix service was rejected. It therefore asks you to confirm your payment information and attaches a link to the website.
Definitely do not click on such sites, especially if you see that the SMS message came from an unknown number. After all, Netflix automatically charges your credit card associated with the service. Therefore, if you receive such or a similar SMS message, you can suspect that it is a scam.
Fraudsters also abuse other platforms
As the Slovak police adds, this is a typical time pressure by which fraudsters try to push their victims against the wall and urge them to take quick action. If you receive such or a similar SMS, first check the status of your Netflix account via your user account or via the platform’s official page.
In the comments under the post of the police, there were reports from users who had come across a similar scam, but related to other services. So it is clear that message fraudsters use different platforms or services. Some users even received SMS messages in other languages (Polish). Thanks to such signs, fraud is easier to detect. Therefore, be careful and ignore suspicious text messages.
