In the last few years, streaming services have literally exploded. At the time of the COVID pandemic, all of them soared to the top like a rocket, but of course it is impossible to grow indefinitely, and recently most of these platforms have been struggling with a decrease in subscribers. Only Netflix was holding on like the last of the Mohicans, but it looks like this situation is catching up with it too.
Not even Netflix can grow indefinitely
When Netflix made it impossible for users to share passwords and set new rules in this direction, a massive outflow of subscribers was expected. But the situation developed exactly the opposite and new subscribers, despite the negative forecasts, on the contrary increased.
Netflix has recently been one of the few streaming platforms that could boast of high subscriber additions. New numbers published agency Reuters but they show that not even Netflix can skyrocket, and the streaming giant is slowing sharply from the first quarter of 2024.

Users are increasing, but significantly slower
The latest data shows that Netflix it attracted 4.82 million users to its ranks in the second quarter of this year. That looks like a decent number, but within Netflix it’s the lowest increase since the first quarter of last year, and towards the end of 2023 it’s a really dramatic drop.
By comparison, in Q4 2023, Netflix added over 15 million new users, so growth slowed almost threefold. It is likely that this decline is due to the removal of the basic ad-free subscription in some markets, which enjoyed high popularity.
Netflix will mine its money elsewhere
Of course, the streaming giant has an interest in making up for the reduction in revenue from a smaller number of new users in some other way, which it is doing well. Recently, Netflix has been increasing its ad revenue significantly by deploying a basic, low-cost subscription with ads. Disney+ also took a similar route, i.e. a cheap subscription with advertisements, and it can be expected that most of the big players will do so soon.
