Around 60 million households worldwide watched the boxing match between Jake Paul and boxing legend Mike Tyson. Netflix, which broadcast the match live, calls it a record.
The match between Tyson and Paul was shown this weekend. Netflix reports that the match was simultaneously streamed 65 million times at its peak. It is difficult to check whether there really is a viewing figure record, because Netflix is usually not very open about viewing figures.
Before the Tyson vs. Paul fight, a boxing match was shown between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano. According to Netflix, it also broke a record. 50 million households watched. According to Netflix, it was probably the most watched female sporting event in American history.
Technical problems during match
Despite the success, the night of the boxing matches was characterized by technical problems. Viewers experienced stuttering images, dropping sound and delays. That is not very surprising: Netflix has not been broadcasting live for very long. There were also problems with an earlier livestream.
“The mega-boxing event dominated social media, broke records and even shook our buffer systems,” Netflix reports X.
