Developed by Yrdvaab Oy of Oulu, Finland, Ephemeris takes the best elements of several classics and adds realistic 3D space combat.
Space strategy game Ephemeris, developed by solo developer Tuomas Pöyhtäri for PC, is now close to completion.
The developer has launched a crowdfunding campaign with the goal of raising at least €30,000 so that Ephemeris can be ready for Early Access.
Ephemeris has been in development for four years and draws inspiration from genre heavyweights such as Master of Orion, Homeworld and Total War, while adding brand new elements. The player is tasked with conquering space in front of computer-controlled opponents, who also meet in real-time tactical space battles. During battles, all ships follow Newton’s laws of physics: so unlike many other games, they don’t just slide around on flat tracks in space. It makes the matches both impressive and unpredictable, because it can turn the tide of the battle. The ships also vary greatly in size, challenging the player to rethink their attack and defense plans.
In addition to real-time battles, the game also contains a turn-based 4X part – explore, expand, exploit, exterminate – where you build your empire, manage resources and exploit the newly conquered territories. This part has been fine-tuned to be more player-friendly, and even large empires can be handled easily and without too much micro-management. In addition, many elements of the game’s universe, such as available technologies, randomly generated for each playthrough and it provides much higher replay value.
The crowdfunding campaign aims to raise at least €30,000 to complete the game and launch it in Early Access on Steam during the second quarter of 2025. The game’s Steam page already has thousands of wishlist additions, and the videos made about the game, has been viewed tens of thousands of times on YouTube. The campaign runs until the end of November
