2025 will mark for BMW a fundamental step in its electrification strategy: the debut of the piattaforma New classspecifically designed for 100% electric models. A clear change of strategy for the Bavarian company, which currently uses the same platform – accompanied by practically identical designs – for the thermal and electric range.
The first model to mark the paradigm shift will be the new BMW iX3battery-powered version of the medium SUV, scheduled for the second half of 2025. From the current generation it will only inherit the name, the rest will be new. Starting from the style, as shown by the images filed by the company at the patent office.
Extra small double kidney
The first detail that catches the eye is the design of the classic double kidneymuch smaller than that of the new X3 and vertically developed, like on the BMWs of the 60s and 70s. And like on the Neue Klasse X, the concept presented last March.

The new BMW iX3 will take inspiration from the prototype to define its own style, made up of soft and angular linesfront and rear light clusters with horizontal development and a general appearance which, if in terms of proportions does not distance itself from the BMW world, in terms of its general appearance renews it from many points of view. The patents do not show the interiorwhich could resume the general structure of the Neue Klasse X, eliminating the classic concept excesses.

New soul
The most important aspect, however, will concern the mechanics. As mentioned, in fact, the new BMW iX3 will lead to its debut piattaforma New classdestined to serve all the company’s future electric vehicles. So goodbye to the Power of Choice philosophy that has characterized Monaco’s production for years, with design and mechanics shared between thermal and draft versions.
Going into details we know that the new mechanics will no longer fit prismatic but cylindrical cellssigned by various suppliers such as CATLEve and Envision AESC. However, the chemistry used remains unknown, while we know that the voltage will be a 800 Volt.
With regard to autonomy should be higher than 30% compared to current electric ones, for a total presumably higher than 600, calculated according to the WLTP cycle. The traction should be rear or all-wheel drive, with an engine for each axle, depending on the versions.
