The Emergency Deteriorating Weather Bulletin issued on 03-10-2024/1200C is updated according to the latest forecast data. It is pointed out that there are no substantial differences from the original bulletin.
More specifically, with the passage of a cold front, the weather will worsen in our country, with strong rains and storms in places from the early afternoon of this Friday (04-10-24) until the evening of Saturday (05-10-24). Western Greece and the northeastern parts of the country will be affected by the intense phenomena.
In detail:
A. Friday (04-10-24)
From the early afternoon, locally heavy rains and storms are predicted initially in the northern Ionian and Epirus and gradually in the rest of the Ionian islands, western Sterea and northwestern Peloponnese. A weakening of the phenomena is expected late at night in the northwest (Corfu – Epirus area).
B. On Saturday (05-10-24) locally heavy rains and storms are predicted:
a) From the early hours of the morning until the afternoon in western Sterea, western Peloponnese and the southernmost islands of the Ionian.
b) From the midday hours until the evening in eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the easternmost parts of central Macedonia.
The evolution of the weather
From the early afternoon in the northwest are expected locally heavy rains and storms where they start from Corfu and Epirusahead of severe weather Cassandra, and by late evening will affect the rest of the west, first the western Sterea and the rest of the Ionian islands and then the western Peloponnese.
The temperature in the eastern continents will reach and locally exceed 30 degrees. Southerly winds 5 Beaufort in the Aegean, 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Ionian.
The meteorological services of Italy and the Western Balkans for their regions gave the bad weather the name “Cassandra”. We can hardly say that “the tail” of “Cassandra” will affect the western countryessentially a cold front that will bring locally heavy rain and storms to the west.
On Saturday and Sunday, mainly in the west and the north unsettled weather with the most important phenomena on Saturday morning in the western country and in the afternoon in the northeastern country.

Of course, while the bad weather will affect western Greece, the weather will be very good in Attica and Thessaloniki. The temperature will reach up to 28 to 30 degrees in Athens, 26 to 27 in Thessaloniki. Tomorrow in Athens and Thessaloniki we expect temporary clouds in Attica, maybe it will rain for a while in the afternoon, in Thessaloniki the rain is more likely.
The detailed prognosis of Ziakopoulos
A barometric low in N. Italy, accompanied by a cold front extending to Tunisia, moves slowly E-NE and the new twenty-four hours (Friday) will affect W-NW Greece with strong local rains and storms. Regarding the winds, the combination of the aforementioned low with the high pressures of Turkey will cause southerlies with an intensity of up to 7 Beaufort (N. Ionian). The temperature will fluctuate at high levels for the season, especially in the east and south.
On Saturday (5/10), local rain and storms will occur mainly in the Ionian, mainland Greece and the NE-NE Aegean. The phenomena in places in the western regions of the country and Eastern Macedonia are likely to be intense. Winds will blow SW to NW 4 to 6 Beaufort and the temperature in the Ionian and continental areas will drop by 2 to 4 degrees.
On Sunday (6/10), local rains and isolated storms of short duration will occur in W-NW Greece, the northern country and the E-NE Aegean. Winds will blow W-NW with an intensity of 4 to 6 Beaufort and the temperature will drop slightly across the country.
On Monday (7/10), only in the morning hours in Thrace and the islands of the NE-NE Aegean there will be local rains of short duration. Regarding winds and temperature, no significant changes are expected.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (8 & 9/10), no rain is predicted and in fact almost everywhere will be sunny. Winds only in the Dodecanese will reach 5 Beaufort and the temperature will rise slightly.
