Emoji fans take note: The Official Emoji Committee has created nine new emojis that could be available on your smartphone as early as next year.
It’s only been a few months since WhatsApp delighted users with the integration of several new emojis, including a phoenix, a mushroom and a lime. And yet two new batches of emoji are already in the starting blocks. We already reported on the first one in May 2024. The new emojis planned for WhatsApp and Co. include a shovel, a fingerprint and a sleepy face.

Although the new emojis have not yet made it to users’ smartphones, the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee has already submitted the next emoji drafts for 2025/2026. These include the following nine emojis:
- Distorted face
- Battle Clouds icon
- A ballet dancer
- apple core
- Orca
- “Hairy creature”
- trombone
- landslide
- Treasure chest
Social media expert Matt Navarra has a screenshot of the emoji drafts from which Emojipedia reported in the blog postshared on threads.
Experience has shown that it will take some time for the emojis to arrive on users’ devices. This may be expected to be published in 2025, or perhaps not until 2026. In the meantime, you can create your own emojis – for example with Google’s Emoji Kitchen or, more recently, with Apple’s Genmojis.
