We are learning more and more about the Nintendo Switch 2, which is expected to arrive this year.
From recent leaks, we learned that the Joycon controllers of the Nintendo Switch 2 console will bring many innovations while maintaining the hybrid format favored by the original Switch. Based on the leaked images and videos, the Switch 2 will still come with controllers that attach to the console, but we can see some major changes in terms of design and functionality. The new Joycons are a little longer and more robust, which suggests that the Switch 2 console may also be larger in size than the original. The new design is not only visually different, but the attachment mechanism has also changed: instead of the previous sliding mechanism, the new controllers can be “inserted” and removed using a release button under the trigger.
The internal buttons of the Joycons have also become larger, which can make the game significantly more comfortable with a single controller. Although the leaked images don’t show the front of the Joycons, based on what we’ve seen so far, the new controllers are packed with plenty of new features.
One of the most interesting new elements is an optical sensor located on the side of the controller. It’s not clear what exactly it will be used for, but it could be another step towards improving the gameplay. The source of the leaked information is the Chinese Baidu Tieba forum, where users even noticed a serial number on one of the controllers. This figure further strengthens the credibility of the leaks, although it could have serious consequences for the leaker.
Based on the leaks, it looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 will stay true to the hybrid concept while improving it with new design and features. The more robust construction and innovative technologies of the new Joycons can create a lot of excitement among fans, and if the rumors so far are true, the Switch 2 will be a worthy continuation of Nintendo’s successful console.
