AMD introduced the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, which we have been talking about for a while, and brought together the Zen 5 microarchitecture and 2nd Generation 3D V-Cache technology. We were previously expecting a series consisting of several different models under the name “Ryzen 9000X3D”, but then the plans changed and a single CPU benefiting from new technologies was released. being driven.
Let’s take a brief return to the past. The company made its first experiment with 3D V-Cache technology with the Zen 3-based Ryzen 7 5800X3D model, and then continued by building on it. Over time, both Zen architecture developed and improvements were made to cache technology. It seems that AMD is adopting the same tactic again.
AMD emphasized that the new generation X3D processor is a “gaming legend” and will offer more with advanced gaming performance. According to the reds’ own tests, the AM5 CPU can outperform its Intel rival by up to 20% in 40 popular games.
As you know, Ryzen 7 7800X3D was a very successful CPU that was the focus of gamers. Now it looks like it will be replaced by 9800X3D. A new version of 3D V-Cache technology awaits us with the Zen 5 architecture, which has received significant improvements in terms of power efficiency.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D Features
We are talking about the second generation cache, but what has changed? The SRAM cache layer, which was previously integrated at the top, has been moved to the bottom of the chip. In other words, the red team reversed the 3D die stacking structure and the SRAM block is now placed below the CCDs. When the Ryzen 5000X3D chips were first released, the concept consisted of integrating an L3 cache block on top of the CCDs. The biggest issue with this model was heat dissipation due to the use of extra silicon on top of the CCDs for structural integrity.
Due to thermal limitations, the clock speeds of 3D V-Cache technology chips were also negatively affected, but these problems seem to have been resolved. The 64 MB cache placed under the processor pushes clock speeds up by moving the core complex die (CCD) closer to the cooling solution to help keep Zen 5 cores cooler. The relocated cache topology means the Zen 5 cores can be kept cooler too.
It offers high clock speeds and delivers up to an 8% average gaming performance increase compared to our last generation processor and up to an average of 20% faster performance than its competitors. This revolutionary change in layout allows extreme overclocking of the processor. The first fully unlocked X3D processor empowers enthusiasts and gamers to push performance to new limits.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D comes with 8 cores and 16 threads based on Zen 5 architecture. The base clock speed of 4.7 GHz can increase up to 5.2 GHz. In addition, there is a total of 104 MB cache, 96 MB of which is L3 cache and the rest is L1 + L2. 32 MB L3 cache comes from units called CCD (Core Complex Die), and 64 MB 3D cache comes from the layer below the CCD. In total, there is a 96 MB L3 cache pool. Additionally, let us note that the TDP value is 120W.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D Performance
AMD claimed that its new processor offers up to 8% gaming performance increase compared to the previous generation. Compared to Intel’s flagship Core Ultra 9 285K, the performance difference reaches up to 20%.
The company found that in a table of 40 popular games, the 9800X3D performed up to 8% faster on average than the previous generation 7800X3D. Judging by the slides, there are differences compared to its predecessor ranging from 1% to 26% depending on the game. Games like Hogwarts Legacy, Far Cry 6, and Ashes of the Singularity are up over 20% on the new chip.
A direct comparison was also made with the newly released Core Ultra 9 285K. According to AMD’s internal testing, the 9800X3D is on average 20% more powerful than Intel’s chip across 40 games. Especially in Far Cry 6 and Cyberpunk 2077, the margin goes up to 40%.
AMD also says it’s working with game developers to deliver optimized performance on its
Ryzen 7 9800X3D Price and Release Date
Described as the “world’s best gaming processor”, the 9800X3D will go on sale worldwide on November 7, shortly after its introduction. The recommended sales price was determined as $479.
