The BMW Group has announced that it is making major changes to its design team, without affecting the position of group chief designer, as Adrian van Hooydonk remains in place, but future BMW models will not bear the signature of Domagoj Dukec. The Frankfurt-born Croatian moves to Rolls-Royce where he will take up the role of head of design.
Future BMWs will be designed by two people. The upper middle and luxury models will be the responsibility of Maximilian Missoni. He is the former head of design at Polestar who, after spending six years there, will from October 1 design BMW’s biggest cars as well as Alpina’s upcoming models.
BMW’s compact and mid-size cars will be designed by Oliver Heilmer, who has been Mini’s design chief since 2017. In addition, his team will also be responsible for the design of the M models. Taking his place at the helm of Mini’s design department will be Holger Hampf, formerly head of Designworks. Going forward, former Rolls-Royce design chief Anders Warming will lead Designworks as well as Advanced Design.
Elsewhere, BMW has appointed Claudia Braun as head of a new cross-brand division for color and material design for BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, with Christian Bauer remaining the leader of digital customer experience.
