Land Rover has published a series of new images of the future electric Range Rover. The luxury SUV is tested in extreme temperatures, on the dunes of the Arab Emirates.
The new generation of the Range Rover SUV will receive, for the first time for the luxury SUV, a fully electric version. The zero-emission variant will use the same platform as the thermal model and keep the same design line, thus unifying the range of the British manufacturer.
The Range Rover Electric prototypes are currently in one of the world’s most unforgiving climates, undergoing the most intense testing a Range Rover has ever endured, says the British manufacturer. As part of the development of the first all-electric Range Rover, the United Arab Emirates is the proving ground for evaluating the car’s behavior in extreme heat.
Vehicle performance and efficiency are put to the test to ensure the entire drivetrain is reliably temperature controlled and built to sustain optimum longevity and range even in such conditions.
The first electric Range Rover will be launched in 2025
“Hot climates are one of the most challenging for any battery electric vehicle due to the need to cool the cabin and optimize battery performance at the same time. The added challenge of driving on sand requires controlled low-speed torque, so our specially developed traction control and thermal management systems work in harmony to ensure power delivery is not compromised. Our tests showed that in this climate, repeatedly driving the equivalent of 100 meters up fine sand, the Range Rover Electric matched the performance of its heat engine equivalents; in some cases, even surpassing them – thanks to the introduction of these new functions”, said Thomas Müller
Executive director of the Product Engineering department.
The company says the electric Range Rover is still in the works, but says the new model will be available to order from 2025.
