Russia has recorded two cases of COVID-19 related to the XEC variant, Rospotrebnadzor reported.
The department noted that patients were identified in the Rostov Region and Ufa. “Sequencing centers have ensured the study of positive samples from all subjects of the Russian Federation with subsequent aggregation in a single platform,” the service noted. Specialists are monitoring to identify even single new genovariants.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, XEC is currently most widespread in France – about 21% of sequenced samples, and is also gaining momentum in Germany and the UK.
Russians were advised to use personal protective equipment, wash their hands with soap, avoid contact with sick people, and ventilate rooms to protect themselves from diseases.
Earlier it was reported that the number of new cases of coronavirus is growing in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
