New names for former Sport1 pay-TV channels

As announced, the pay TV channels Sport1+ and eSports1 sold by Sport1 have been broadcasting under a new name since today. What else is new?

The current Darts World Cup on Sport1, which is being watched by a large number of viewers, will not stop the move from a sports channel to an entertainment program. The new shareholder Acunmedya creates facts and announced the discontinuation of the channels Sport1+ and eSports1 at the beginning of November. Since today, they have been continued almost seamlessly by the former competitor Sportdigital. And so Sport1+ became Sportdigital 1+. The channel can still be received on all broadcast slots of its predecessor.

Sportdigital TV will continue to maintain the channels’ essential content in order to ensure content continuity for platforms, users and fans, it was announced at the time. And in fact the program continues to run without interruption. The renaming of eSports1 is purely visual, as the channel is now called eSports One. “The expansion of our pay-TV activities in the sports sector and the associated expansion of our Sportdigital program portfolio in German-speaking countries is a very important milestone in our company history, which we are extremely pleased about,” said Sportdigital TV managing director Gisbert Wundram in November the takeover. A further development of the program was announced “with our proven ‘sport digital philosophy’,” as Wundram said.

Sport1 becomes an entertainment channel

Sport1 is planning and producing new seasons of internationally successful formats for 2025: “Exatlon” and “My Style Rocks” are already the first entertainment formats on air. The survival show “Survivor” and the cooking casting “MasterChef” are already in the works. It is currently not known when Sport1 will get a new name and what the station will be allowed to call itself.
