New revelations and footage of Hamas fighters torturing Palestinians

The British newspaper Daily Mail claims it has CCTV footage showing Hamas fighters torturing Palestinian civilians. This footage appears to have been recorded in 2018-2020, based on the dates on the screens.

This material was reportedly discovered by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in an abandoned Hamas military base in northern Gaza, in the Jabalia area.

According to the report, the IDF discovered recordings “thousand hours” from security cameras to a computer in March of this year.

In one of the clips described by the newspaper, male prisoners can be seen hanging upside down from the ceiling with their legs tied and bags over their heads, while a Hamas fighter beats them on the soles of the feet with a stick.

The Daily Mail reports that it is unclear why these men were held by Hamas, although there are allegations against the organization of detaining and torturing civilians in the Gaza Strip, often under the accusation of collaborating with Israel.

In 2022, UN Watch documented reports of torture suffered by human rights activists, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and political opponents of Hamas.

A senior Israeli military official told the Mail on Sunday that it took months to examine all the material.

Hamza Hawidi, who was captured and tortured by Hamas before fleeing Gaza, told the newspaper that Hamas men “tortured you until you bend and say whatever they want”.
