The ZDF long-running hit “Der Bergdoktor” is entering its 18th season: Dr. Martin Gruber is not only faced with medical challenges again. He also has to fight for happiness in love.
It’s “Bergdoktor” time again. Dr. Martin Gruber is back, and with him of course the turbulent everyday life with mom Lisbeth, brother Hans, daughter Lilli, his friend Dr. Kahnweiler and the patients who come to the Wilden Kaiser practice seeking help. The ZDF ratings hit starring lead actor Hans Sigl is entering its 18th season – it will be exciting and entertaining. The first episode can be seen on January 2nd at 8:15 p.m. and is already available in the media library (DF reported).
ZDF also has a treat worth seeing for “Bergdoktor” fans: a two-part backstage documentary. In just under 30 minutes each, the channel gives a look behind the scenes of the series. The viewers practically accompany Hans Sigl and his co-stars Ronja Forcher, Mark Keller, Monika Baumgartner, Hilde Dalik and Heiko Ruprecht during the filming.
The “mountain doctor” will do almost anything for his patients
Dr. Gruber (Hans Sigl) is always there for his patients, not only taking care of their health, but also caring about their general well-being. For him, no path is too far and no train of thought is too complicated. To be honest, you have to say that he usually only has one patient for whom he can be completely there.
In the first episode entitled “Interactions” he has to deal with Hendrik Balan (Sönke Möhring), who wants to extend his life at almost any cost. To do this, he swallows a lot of pills – until he collapses. Gruber receives support from his “only friend” Dr. Kahnweiler (Mark Keller), who gives the “mountain doctor” a free hand in the hospital. The two are also on the same wavelength when it comes to humor.
In practice, Martin Gruber has the receptionist David Kästner (Frédéric Brossier) at his side. The young man enjoys researching tricky medical cases and also gets along very well with Gruber’s daughter Lilli (Ronja Forcher). Is there something brewing between the two?
The “Bergdoktor” himself has actually found happiness in love. The magical banker Karin (Hilde Dalik) has brought some lightness back into Martin Gruber’s life. But dark clouds are gathering.
Doctor in long-term relationship drama
The doctor’s constant relationship drama runs like a common thread through the series, which is told with humor and a wink. Chief author Philipp Roth and his team of authors have made the “mountain doctor” break many a woman’s heart – and of course vice versa.
In any case, over the course of 18 seasons, Gruber has tried his luck several times: doctor Julia, landlady Susanne, then the striking lawyer Andrea, who, however, died a heroine’s death. The “mountain doctor” wasn’t happy with doctor Lena either; she didn’t want to leave her husband for him.
Then Anne came into Martin’s life, straining the nerves of the Grubers and the viewers for nine seasons. In between, Martin wandered off to insurance woman Rike and distracted himself with pharmacist Franziska, with whom he had his son Johann. A planned new beginning with Anne was doomed to failure.
With Karin, some peace returned. But the two shouldn’t sink into an excess of harmony – also because Martin’s ex-sister-in-law Caro (Barbara Lanz) is increasingly taking on the annoying role in the series. The dissatisfied businesswoman throws herself at the doctor.
Meanwhile, Martin Gruber is not the only one who finds himself in a romantic turmoil that is entertaining for the audience. Brother Hans has a relationship life that is hardly less eventful. Here too there are new developments and complications.
