New speed record for the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 recently reached a new peak in performance, breaking records with a speed of 375 km/h.

This performance is now Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 the fastest production car ever produced by an American manufacturer.

A new speed record

With its 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 develops an impressive power of 1,187 horsepower, for no less than 1,123 Nm of torque. Initially approved at a maximum speed of 346 km/hthe American supercar surpassed all expectations during a official top speed test. This feat was achieved on the high-speed oval track “ATP Automotive Testing” in Papenburg, Germany. General Motors President Mark Reuss was at the wheel with a General Motors engineer at his side, demonstrating the manufacturer’s confidence in its technological innovations.

The Corvette ZR1 has thus reached the bar of 375 km/hin sixth gear and in the red zone: this is a brand new speed record for any production American car. The experiment was repeated several times in order to record the best speed: during this same test, five Chevrolet engineers managed to reach speeds above 370 km/h.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: a completely production model

Chris Barber, Chevrolet’s chief development engineer for the Corvette ZR1, described the car as incredibly stable, comparing the feeling of speed to highway driving, emphasizing the car’s aerodynamic control and exceptional stability. The tested version of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was completely standardand was not equipped with any special equipment: it indeed had the standard chassis, with the aerodynamic pack including the carbon fiber spoiler, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and aluminum rims.

In mode “Top Speed”the ZR1 adjusts its chassis control system to optimize high-speed stability. The test track, which is an oval 12.2 km long and inclined at 50 degrees, made it possible to carry out this extraordinary experience. According to General Motors experts, at speeds of 150 mph, this track feels like you’re driving in a straight line, despite its impressive incline compared to tracks like Talladega, which is angled at just 33 degrees.

With this new top speed record, the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has become the fastest car throughout the history of the American manufacturer.
