New tire factory opened this week in Romania. What does the investment of 650 million EURO look like

Nokian opens its new tire factory in Oradea. Almost 500 people will work in the new factory.

After announcing in 2022 that it would open a factory in Romania, the Finnish company Nokian Tires is opening its first factory in our country.

The Nokian factory in Oradea produced the first tire on 1 July 2024, with series production scheduled to start in 2025. A 60-member launch team involved in the start of production was trained at the Nokian Tires factory in Finland during spring. In total, the factory will employ approximately 500 people.

The new tire factory in Oradea should reach a total production capacity of approximately six million tires annually. There is also the possibility of expansion in the future, and the built area totals approximately 100,000 sqm. There is the possibility of expanding production to over 6 million units annually if there is sufficient demand.

The investment in the Nokian factory amounts to around 650 million euros

On August 13, 2024, the European Commission approved, in accordance with EU state aid rules, an aid measure worth 99.5 million euros (495.2 million lei) in favor of Nokian Tires. This aid will support the establishment of Nokian Tires’ new zero CO2 tire factory in Oradea, Romania.

In total, the investment is estimated at approximately 650 million euros. The tires produced in the Nokian factory in Romania will be sold mainly in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

The recruitment of new Nokian Tires employees for the factory in Romania started last year, and during 2023 and 2024, Nokian Tires recruited employees for both production and the office. The 60-member launch team involved in the start of production was trained at the Nokian Tires factory in Finland during the spring.
