The new trailer for A Minecraft Movie shows a lot more than the first. One of the most important revelations is how the main character Steve, played by comedian Jack Black, ends up in the blocky world of Minecraft.
In the trailer we see a younger version of Steve. He tries to enter a mine, with a nod to the well-known Minecraft meme ‘the children yearn for the mines’. His attempt fails and he is chased away, but later he succeeds. Upon entering the mine, the now adult Steve is teleported to the familiar Minecraft world.

The rest of the trailer is chock full of references to the game. Enemies such as zombies and skeletons appear in action, the iconic Minecraft music is used to evoke nostalgia and Jack Black takes the time for more than two minutes to explain to both the other characters and the audience exactly what kind of world they are in located.
The film also stars actors Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge and Kate McKinnon. The first trailer for A Minecraft Movie was released in September. It was not received positively by all fans, because after all these years of playing Minecraft they clearly had something else in mind. A Minecraft Movie will be in theaters on April 3, 2025.
