The city services of Belgrade have announced an urban-architectural competition for the conceptual solution of a zoo within the entertainment and recreational park on Ada Ciganlija. The subject of the Competition includes the spatial and programmatic solution of the entertainment and recreational park, within which the location of the new Belgrade Zoo is elaborated in more detail. The total prize fund for this competition is 10,500,000 dinars, and the deadline for submission of competition works is January 27, 2025.
In addition to the already announced relocation of the zoo from the existing location on Kalemegdan to the area around Ada Safari, the new location on Ada Ciganlija will offer visitors additional facilities for entertainment and recreation.
Amusement park
The amusement park around Lake Ada Safari, on an area of 28.29 hectares, will include open and thermal swimming pools with a spa center, areas for excursions, children’s playgrounds, smaller catering facilities, outdoor exhibitions, slides of different dimensions and categories (roller coaster), ferris wheel with a large diameter from which the surrounding area can be viewed, a carousel, a merry-go-round, small trains with specially made tunnels and stations.
Zoo on 13 thousand square meters
When it comes to the zoo, it should be remembered that since its establishment in 1936, the Belgrade Zoo has been located within the Belgrade Fortress on Kalemegdan, which has been designated as a cultural monument and represents an area of exceptional monumental value.
The zoo itself, as stated, will have a space for housing animals of a total of 13,654 square meters (exterior and interior). Currently, there are 211 species of animals in Beo Zoo, from large animals to reptiles, i.e. more than 2,000 animals located on 6 hectares.

Of the accompanying buildings, a total of 1,025 square meters is planned for an administrative building, a Research and Educational Center with various programs and workshops for visitors of all ages, a souvenir shop, a catering facility of up to 350 m2 with a terrace, a porter’s office, a ticket office and toilets for visitors.
In order to access the planned facilities, a motor vehicle for tourists or another form of ecological transportation is planned. The plan also includes the construction of a two-story above-ground garage with 2,580 parking spaces, as well as a pier for domestic traffic and a marina in the Čukarica backwater.
A new sewage pumping station will be built next to the existing KCS Čukarica.
