“Next-gen gaming.” AMD announces release of Ryzen 7 9800X3D, regular Ryzen 9000s are discounted

In recent days, there have been more and more leaks about the upcoming Ryzen 9000X3D processors, which according to unofficial rumors will be released soon. AMD may have thought they could make such a service themselves, and just now confirmed the release. It will be in two weeks or so, and the timing seems to have been chosen so that this novelty immediately after the release beats Intel’s new desktop processors on the LGA 1851 platform. But they will also deploy Zenu 5 discounts against the AMD ones.

This is not yet an unveiling event for the new processors, which according to unofficial information should take place on 10/25 (that is, the very next day after the Intel Core 200S go on sale). It is interesting that the company did not confirm this event, but in the official marketing material that it sent out, it apparently confirmed the following date of actual availability. It states that the processors will “arrive on 7/11”, which I guess means directly in stores.

AMD did not directly confirm in the material that it is releasing the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The flyer says that “next-gen gaming” delivered by the Ryzen X3D is “almost here,” and the illustration uses a rendered image of the processor labeled “Ryzen 9000.” The description then states that it will be a CPU for the AM5 platform with PCIe 5.0 support and with the Zen 5 architecture. AMD is expected to release the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D at some point, but according to unofficial information, they should not arrive until after the beginning of the new year . It follows from all this that the new product that this teaser wants to sell you is the eight-core Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

This goes well with the fact that this processor is now being leaked variously, and at the weekend a list of supported processors for AM5 Maxsun boards appeared, which mentions Ryzen 9 9800X3D as the newly released processors (but Ryzen 9 is probably a mistake, it should be called Ryzen 7) and besides that, only the cheap Ryzen 5 9600 without 3D V-Cache. According to this source, the 9800X3D model should have a 120W TDP, 96MB L3 cache and a base clock of 4.7 GHz. Various indications raise hopes that it could provide significantly higher boost clocks than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D based on Zen 4, but here it is probably better to temper expectations, nothing has been confirmed yet.

It will probably become clear soon if the reveal takes place on Friday, October 25. We don’t know the price yet, but it is likely that it will be higher than what the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is currently being sold for. It went on the market at an official price of $449, which could therefore also be used for the 9800X3D (with VAT it would be about CZK 12,700 / €502). It will apparently be the fastest processor for a gaming PC at launch, which is something to consider.

Discounts on non-X3D Zen 5

In time for the autumn shopping season and various “Black Fridays”, AMD also announced discounts on other Ryzen 9000 models, which were released only in August. The biggest discount is on the sixteen-core Ryzen 9 9950X, which is temporarily priced at $599 (minus fifty dollars, with VAT it would be about CZK 1,400 / €56 less). The remaining three models have a price reduced by $30 (CZK 850 / €34 including VAT). This will make the biggest difference relatively to the Ryzen 5 9600X, which would temporarily cost just $249.

It seems that these discounts have already taken effect in the USA and will hopefully be available here as well. However, this is not a permanent reduction in the prices of these processors, their recommended prices remain the same. AMD is talking about a “promotion”, i.e. a temporary promotional discount. This may be repeated later, and one day the processors will become cheaper due to a natural price drop, so that it will be a permanent level. But in the meantime, after the end of Black Friday and similar autumn events, the price may rise again for some time.

It should be added that these reduced prices are also only recommended, so the condition may not always correspond in stores. Ideally, the discounts could theoretically be even deeper. This applies to the 9900X model in the USA, but it seems that it is also available in some Czech e-shops at a lower price (from 12,300 CZK).
