The Chancellor is currently appearing more and more on TV. After “Caren Miosga” it goes to RTL. The reason: It’s an election campaign.

With the failure of the traffic light government and the new elections now due at the end of February 2025, the election campaign has begun. An important element for political actors: TV talk shows or interviews in high-reach news programs. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), who would like to run for another term, was a guest at “Caren Miosga” last weekend. The social democrat explained his point of view in the format for an hour. The episode: “Caren Miosga” achieved the best ratings in its (still relatively young) broadcast history. Almost 4.7 million people watched, the total market share was 21 percent.

Olaf Scholz will not be able to achieve such a reach in his next longer television appearance. He will give an interview to RTL on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday next week. These discussions have been running for some time in the RTL night program following the “RTL Nachtjournal”. This also happened on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The Scholz interview is scheduled to begin at 12:25 a.m. It can be assumed that RTL will also use content from this in its other news programs. It could not be the last Scholz interview on RTL in the election campaign. The station is planning several rounds of a TV duel, as it revealed a few days ago.

Big RTL interview: Verstappen also speaks

The Scholz interview resulted in some minor program shifts – each affecting the night program. The “fact sign” that was actually planned for November 19th will now run on Thursday night. On the train, a “climate update” is postponed to November 26th. And: On Saturday night next week, RTL will broadcast a longer interview with Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen. He will give this interview on the sidelines of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. This will be broadcast by both RTL and Sky. Max Verstappen can also be seen on the RTL program from 12:25 a.m.

Habeck advertises himself on ZDF

On top of that, Green Party candidate for chancellor Robert Habeck will be interviewed on ZDF on Sunday. He is a guest on a “What Now?” edition, which is scheduled to begin at 7:11 p.m. “Berlin Direkt” should therefore be postponed to 7:30 p.m. Because ZDF wants to start its primetime film as usual at 8:15 p.m., the planned “Terra X” no longer fits in between. Instead, a “Terra X Harald Lesch” edition is now being repeated, which is around 30 minutes long.
