Next tournament victory: Luke Littler outclasses van Gerwen, Smith and Co.

Luke Littler is and remains unstoppable on the darts board: On Sunday, the 17-year-old celebrated his next big victory at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam. He left the competition behind.

Darts prodigy Luke Littler is one title and £80,000 richer since Sunday. The 17-year-old Englishman won the final tournament of this year’s World Series of Darts and didn’t give his competitors a chance. Littler averaged well over 100 points in all five of his matches and strolled through the tournament almost without any major opposition.

Littler only made things really exciting in the first round against Ross Smith. Here, fans of “The Nuke” were on edge until the very end, before their favorite narrowly won 6:5.

Against crowd favorite Raymond van Barneveld, Littler took advantage of his chances more consistently. Although “Barney” averaged 99.5 points per inning, he had little to say in the 4:6 defeat.

Littler sweeps the big names off the stage

In the quarter-final against Chris Dobey, Littler raised his level once again. The 17-year-old averaged almost 103 points and, after a 10:7 victory, moved into the semi-final, where he faced Michael van Gerwen, a highly anticipated duel.

The duel between the two superstars lived up to its promise until the score was 4:4. But after that, the match became a one-man show for Littler. The teenager literally swept van Gerwen, winning seven (!) legs in a row and securing his ticket to the final with a completely safe 11:4 victory. His average: 107.95 points.

In the final, Littler faced the next big challenge in the form of world number two Michael Smith, but the youngster mastered this one in no time. The “Bully Boy” held his own until the score was 3:3, after which Littler simply rolled over him. The prodigy won seven legs in a row, just as he had done in the semi-final, and ultimately bagged the tournament victory thanks to an 11:4 triumph.

Gabriel Clemens had also qualified for the first round of the final tournament, but the German lost 5:6 to Damon Heta.
