Next twist in the poker game for Adrian Newey

The poker game for Formula 1 engineer Adrian Newey may be about to take a surprising turn. After Aston Martin was predicted to be the clear winner in the battle for his signature in recent weeks, another racing team has suddenly thrown its hat into the ring.

Much, if not all, has been said in recent weeks in favor of Adrian Newey moving to Aston Martin. The British have reportedly promised the star engineer not only extensive powers, but also around 100 million euros for three years. A package that the 65-year-old could not refuse, according to consistent reports.

However, the portal “f1insider” is now reporting on a possible last-minute turnaround and is bringing a new potential employer into play. This is said to be Aston Martin competitor Alpine.

Will Flavio Briatore make the Newey bang?

The driving force behind Alpine’s efforts is said to be Flavio Briatore, who has held an influential position at the French racing team for a few weeks. There have allegedly been a number of meetings between Alpine’s top management and Newey in the recent past. The engineer is said to have been presented with a “huge offer”.

It is difficult to predict whether the Alpine package will ultimately be attractive enough to convince Newey to make a move. Newey manager Eddie Jordan has recently repeatedly stressed that his client has not yet made a decision on the future, thereby denying an agreement with Aston Martin.

It is certain that the engineer will not set up camp in Maranello next time. The lead to Ferrari was the hottest for a long time, and Newey was allegedly even looking for a place to live in the immediate vicinity of the Ferrari factory. Ultimately, however, the bosses of the racing team did not want to meet the 65-year-old’s demands. Newey is said to have turned them down.
