Nextech | AUCTIONS OF UNIQUE .sk DOMAINS

The company SK-NIC, as starts from 1 October 2024 release of 1-, 2- and 3-character.sk domains for registration. It goes, for example for domains such as 1.sk, ba.sk or hm.sk.

These are unique domains, in which the interest of companies with a name, brand or logo similar or identical to one of the domains in List of 1-2-3 .sk Domains intended for Auctions. Such an investment is unique for companies – it is only here once – when it ends, there will be no more.



The company points out that there is a specific priority phase for trademark holders, during which they can apply and submit the necessary documents for their claim before the official opening of the auctions.

The deadline for submitting an application using the priority right lasts from 1 to 14 October 2024. After this period, it will no longer be possible – similarly to other countries, free competition through an auction will follow.

Auctions will be opened in monthly groups of domains in the SK-NIC Auction System (available at https://sk-nic.sk/aukcie/), it will be possible to participate in the auction after registering in it. The first group will be available from November 15, 2024.

Investment in virtual land – domains – pays off. In the world, valuable domains are auctioned for hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. A good name ensures a high rate of profitability. For example, the domain voice.com was auctioned for an incredible 30 million dollars. And it’s not the most expensive!

In Slovakia, from October 1, 2024, there is an opportunity to obtain such unique .sk domainswhich has not been possible to obtain since the creation of independent Slovakia until now. This event will not be repeated.

ABOUT THE COMPANY SK-NIC, as

The company SK-NIC, as is the administrator of the top-level domain .sk. Since the mid-1990s, it has been recognized by the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), which manages the DNS root zone as a delegated manager of the .sk domain (in 1999 it changed its name from EUNET Slovakia to EuroWeb Slovakia and in 2006 to SK-NIC).

In 2006, the company SK-NIC, as concluded a cooperation agreement with the government of the Slovak Republic – unique in the framework of the administration of national domains in Europe – by which it voluntarily transferred part of its competences in domain administration to the government and submitted to the requirements for the level of services provided as well as to the Commission for the administration of the national domain, which consists of representatives of the Internet community as well as the Slovak government.

SK-NIC, as is the most successful registry in the field of openness to its community of domain registrars within the framework of national domains of the highest level in Europe, while the number of accredited registrars in Slovakia reached the maximum level of 5,900 entities in the past (note: there are only three other administrators of national domains in Europe , who have more than 1,000 registrars, while, for example, there are just over 40 registrars in the Czech Republic, or just over 300 registrars in Germany, which is the world’s largest domain market).

Under the management of SK-NIC, as, the .sk domain also achieves 100 percent uninterrupted availability of the DNS service. All employees and technologies used by SK-NIC, as are located in Slovakia, where it ensures operation with the maximum possible 100 percent availability of the DNS service, since it became a fully owned subsidiary of the global group CentralNic, which is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange papers. The CentralNic group bought the shares of SK-NIC, as from the previous Dutch shareholder in December 2017. The group bears the name from 2023 Team Internet.
