Nextech | IKEA introduces technology support for the DIRIGERA hub

IKEA is taking the next step in creating a better and simpler smart home by introducing Matter technology support for the DIRIGERA hub. From September 11, all smart products connected to the DIRIGERA hub will be compatible with smart home platforms that use the Matter standard.

Matter is the new standard in the smart home industry, enabling smart products to seamlessly connect and collaborate regardless of brand. The first step to adopting Matter technology is to update the DIRIGERA hub to the Matter Bridge. As a result, it will be able to support any Matter-enabled system. This update will enable all IKEA smart products based on the Zigbee protocol (which has powered IKEA smart products since 2012) to communicate with other Matter-enabled devices and platforms, further increasing the convenience and accessibility of the smart home.

At IKEA, we have always believed that a smart home should be simple and accessible to everyone. We understand how important it is for our customers to have smart products that work together effortlessly. By introducing support for Matter technology on the DIRIGERA hub, we are taking a significant step towards creating a more seamless and interoperable smart home. Users no longer have to worry about compatibility. Everything will work together, simply and efficiently,“ says Damir Smrkovic, head of platform and technology at IKEA of Sweden.

IKEA is committed to ensuring that any Matter-enabled ecosystem can seamlessly connect with IKEA’s smart products. It thus supports openness and interoperability in the smart home industry. As one of the first board members of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), IKEA actively contributed to the development of the Matter standard and provided more opportunities to as many people as possible around the world.

We know that many people perceive smart products as complicated. Our goal is to change that by promoting better and easier integration of technology into everyday life. Until now, this meant providing integrations using some of the most widely used platforms. With the help of Matter technology, we extend these possibilities even further,“ says David Granath, range manager at IKEA of Swedenand adds: “We believe that by combining our many years of experience in home living with innovative technologies, we are uniquely positioned to reduce barriers and enable smarter everyday life for more people.“

In-kind support for the DIRIGERA hub will be available at all locations where DIRIGERA is sold. IKEA products in lighting, sound, air purification, remote controls and sensors will be supported by the new Matter protocol, which will ensure that users can create a connected home that meets their unique needs and preferences.

IKEA is committed to constantly expanding and improving its smart home offering by updating existing products and introducing new products to the market. More updates and announcements will follow in the future.
