Nextech | SILVERCREST PMR transmitters

The transmitters will allow you to communicate even in an area outside the reach of the mobile network, for example when hiking in remote areas. They are also a useful aid in synchronizing various activities where a mobile connection would be impractical because it would be necessary to make either one very long call or many short calls. When connected via radios, you are always tuned to the appropriate channel, you are still on reception and when you need to talk, you just press the key button.

SILVERCREST PMR portable radios operate in the unlicensed frequency band of 446 MHz. PMR stands for Private Mobile Radio. 16 channels are available in the 446 MHz band (wavelength 68 cm). The advantage of this band is that it is defined internationally, so the radios can come in handy when traveling abroad. Range is affected by uneven terrain or various obstacles. In buildings, the typical range of hand-held radios is approximately 10-1000 m, in the mountains even up to 5-10 km, but usually the rule applies, where I can see, I will call. Manufacturers usually state the distance at which the radios are able to communicate if there is no barrier between them. In the case of Silvercrest radios, this is 3 km in the city or up to 10 km in the open. In real practice, the range of broadcasting is affected by many factors – from uneven terrain to adverse weather. Speaking of weather, the radios have an IPX4 level of resistance, so you can take them for hiking, but this resistance only applies when the covers of the charging USB-C connector and the 2.5 mm Jack connector for connecting headphones are closed.

Each radio is powered by the included AA-size batteries, each with a capacity of 1000 mAh. The package also includes a charging station, which you can use to charge both radios at the same time, and each radio has a USB-C connector, so it can be charged individually, for example from power bank. The manufacturer claims an operating time of 25 hours, assuming 5% transmit time, 5% receive time and 90% standby time. Detachable belt clips are also included.

The transmitters work as a pair and must communicate with each other using the same communication channel and the same CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) or DCS (Digital Code Squelch) code. Keep in mind that on a free channel, others with PMR radios or receivers can monitor your conversation. Don’t forget to say “toggle” before releasing the key button. The transmitters have two-channel search and scanning according to active channels. The VOX function has three levels of regulation. You can set 20 ringtones.
