In the narrow 6:3 win over the Chicago Bears, the Seattle Seahawks had to do without running back Kenneth Walker. Now it is clear: the offensive star will be missing from his team for the rest of the NFL season.
On Thursday evening it was announced that Walker was on the Seahawks’ injured reserve list and would therefore have to miss at least four games. The regular season is over for Walker. Only a deep playoff run by the Seahawks could ensure that Walker is allowed to play again this season.
As general manager John Schneider explained on Seattle Sports 710-AM, Walker suffered a high ankle sprain. He therefore did not take part in any of the training sessions during the week.
To fill the roster and fill Walker’s spot, the Seahawks signed rookie George Holani from the practice squad. Holani was already available against the Bears as the third running back behind Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh.
NFL: Injury-plagued season
For Kenneth Walker, the new injury fits into his up-and-down season. The running back barely got fit this season. He was out in September with an abdominal muscle injury and in December with a calf problem.
However, when fit, Walker could deliver. He totaled 573 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in eleven games.
In his absence, backup Zach Charbonnet was also able to draw attention. He has a similarly good 453 rushing yards and has eight touchdowns, the most for the Seahawks.
After Seattle has already played the game in Week 17 by beating Chicago, the men from the West Coast only have one game left in the regular season. On 5/1 it will be against the Rams, who are currently in the lead in the NFC West.
