“NIDA Poll” 58.86% of people are confused about the MOU 44 Koh Kood dispute, do not trust the Thai government to negotiate benefits for Cambodia.
The polling center “NIDA Poll” of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) revealed the results of a public survey on the topic “Who understands the controversial issues regarding MOU 44 and Koh Kood?” The survey was conducted between 12-13 November 2024 from citizens at Aged 18 years and over all over the country, totaling 1,310 sample units. It was found that from the survey, when asking people’s understanding of the disputed issues regarding MOU 44 and the situation of Koh Kood, 58.86 percent of the samples said they did not understand at all, followed by 100. 19.31 percent said they did not understand very much, 15.65 percent said they somewhat understood, and 6.18 percent said they understood a lot. When asked those who said they understood a lot and somewhat understood the controversial issues regarding MOU 44 and the situation of Koh Kood (288 sample unit) regarding trust in the government that it will be able to protect national interests if MOU 44 is negotiated with the Cambodian government, it was found that 33.68 percent of the sample said they did not trust it at all, followed by 29.17 percent that they did not trust it at all. Trust: 24.65 percent said they somewhat trust, and 12.50 percent said they trusted a lot. As for wanting to understand the MOU 44 dispute and the Koh Kood situation more clearly, it was found that a sample of 41.22 percent said they didn’t want it at all, followed by 26.72 percent said they really wanted it, 16.64 percent said they somewhat wanted it, and 15.42 percent said they didn’t really want it. Finally, when asked about the idea of ”nationalism” among the people, it was found that 40.15 percent of the sample said they were very “nationalist”, followed by 28.24 percent who said that “nationalism” depends on the situation, 15.04 percent. stated that they were somewhat “nationalist”, 7.33% said they were not “nationalist” at all, 6.26% said they were not very “nationalist” and 2.98% said they did not answer/were not interested.
