The Prague Transport Company (DPP) will put nine Christmas-decorated trams and buses into service on Saturday. Before these cars leave on their regular routes, passengers can ride with them in a festive parade from Královka to Republic Square. DPP spokeswoman Aneta Řehková announced this in a press release today. Decorated trams and buses will run through the streets of Prague until January 6.
DPP will ceremoniously present Christmas cars on Saturday, November 30 in the Královka loop at 4:30 p.m. 15 minutes later, they will start their journey through the stops Pohořelec, Chotkovy sady, Letenské náměstí, Veletržní palác, Dělnická, Vltavská, Nábřeží Kapitána Jaroš to the final Náměstí Republiky. Those interested in taking a ride in the parade can already board in Královka.
The spokeswoman recommended several places for fans who want to take photos of the parade: Milady Horáková Street, U Výstaviště Street, Bubenské nábřeží, Štefánikův most and Republiky Square.
As soon as the convoy reaches its destination, the cars start on their regular routes. Passengers can ride with them on tram lines 9, 11, 17, 42 and bus lines 136 and 175. This year’s novelty will be the carols that will be played in decorated trams between stop announcements.
The Christmas decorations of public transport vehicles also include the most common Christmas wishes of children from children’s homes. “This is a selection of the most common or typical ones, but there are hundreds of them in total,” said Řehková. Anyone who wants to fulfill some wishes can write to the e-mail address jezisek@dpp.cz. The carrier will then connect him with the Federation of Children’s Homes and describe the next procedure.
This year, for the first time, DPP will also decorate one metro station for Christmas, it will be Křižíkova. “DPP chose it first because it is named after František Křižík, a Czech technician, inventor, industrialist and pioneer of electric tram transport in Prague,” explained Řehková.
Christmas-decorated public transport cars drove through the metropolis during the Christmas period last year as well. But there were fewer of them, a total of two buses and five trams.
