Nintendo even reinvents smart alarm clocks: Alarmo is the most beautiful and funniest you’ve ever seen

Nintendo has announced a device that, at first glance, may have little to do with video games, a smart alarm clock: Nintendo Alarm. Yet, even in this case, Big N has managed to transform an object now considered obsolete into one of the most beautiful, fun and even useful devices you have ever seen.

Nintendo Alarmo may seem like a normal alarm clock with a nice display that takes up the themes of some of the Japanese publisher’s most popular titles, from Super Mario Odyssey a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, it’s much more than that and it could be the mysterious device mentioned we talked a few weeks ago.

Thanks to a dedicated sensorNintendo’s alarm clock generates sounds based on the movements made in bed during awakeningnaturally extracted from the titles in question. When it detects that the user rises from the sleeping position, a musical theme from the game selected in the settings plays.

Once you get out of bed, finally, the alarm will automatically deactivate. But what happens if the user doesn’t get up at the first alarm? The sound will become increasingly intense and a more aggressive musical theme will play.

Alarm cannot detect a specific personso if two or more people are sleeping in the same bed within range of the sensor, the alarm may stop when one person gets out of bed, but restart once it detects someone is still in bed“, wrote the team in suggestions for alarm placement. “The alarm will stop completely once everyone is out of bed“.

Themes for Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, Ringfit Adventure and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be available at release. However, by connecting the alarm clock to the internet it will be possible to update the themes by adding new ones for free every time Nintendo makes them available.

But that’s not all: Nintendo Alarmo has a sleep monitor which allows you to evaluate the quality of rest through the movements produced during the night. Lastly, the alarm clock is equipped with some musical themes that promote sleep and, through the settings, it can automatically start when the user lies down.

Nintendo Alarmo will be available for purchase starting from the end of this week at the price of $99 – most likely 99 euro at the exchange rate – for members of Nintendo Switch Online. Release for everyone else is expected later mid-January 2025.
